Caring for Velvet & Upholstered Furniture in the UAE Climate
31 July 2026

Velvet and upholstered pieces bring softness and depth to a room, and they stay beautiful for years with a light, regular routine — especially in the UAE, where fine dust and humidity are the main challenges.
Dust weekly. Run a soft brush or the upholstery attachment of your vacuum over the fabric to lift dust before it settles into the pile. For velvet, always brush in the direction of the nap so the surface keeps its even sheen. A quick weekly pass prevents the dull, grey film that dust leaves over time.
Treat spills immediately. Blot — never rub — with a clean, dry cloth to lift the liquid, then dab with a barely-damp cloth using water only. Rubbing pushes the stain deeper and crushes the pile. Let the spot air-dry, then brush the nap back into place once dry.
Manage light and humidity. Keep upholstery out of harsh direct sun, which fades colour over months, and let the AC keep indoor humidity moderate so the fabric and foam don't hold moisture. An occasional fluff and rotate of loose cushions keeps the shape even and the wear balanced.
For a deeper refresh, a gentle fabric-safe upholstery cleaner once or twice a year is plenty. Avoid soaking the fabric or using harsh solvents. With this simple routine, a velvet sofa or a tufted headboard keeps its rich, just-delivered look for the long run.
